HISTORY OF THE FOUNDATION
In 1991, the Quest Educational Foundation was set up when the Academy decided that it needed assistance with both its operating budget and public awareness.
Its goal was to allow any student capable of meeting the academic challenge to be given the opportunity to attend the Academy. Thus, the bursary program was established, made possible with the help of the Clark family, the Sisters of Saint Anne, the Administration, and the Development Office. A successful first Annual Giving Campaign began focusing not only on the bursary fund (Endowment) but also on the subject area fund (Non-Endowment) to help departments such as fine and performing arts, science, technology, or athletics.
The Quest Educational Foundation, which began with the Jennifer Anne Clark Memorial Bursary Fund, continued to grow and in 1998 the name was changed to The Queen of Angels Academy Foundation.
In 1997 the first phase of the educational technology implementation got under way when the Foundation purchased cabling, networking, computer hardware and software as well as Internet access for the Academy.
In 2000, the Dr. Margaret C. Kiely Scholarship was set up under the direction of the school's past administrator, family members and friends. Every year an alumna receives a $500 scholarship for post-secondary studies in education or psychology.
In 2001 a Business Directory was first published in the Student-Parent Handbook which reached the families of the students, staff and faculty. It helped raise funds for the school and support local businesses at the same time.
The Hall of Honour was redecorated in the Spring of 2001 under the direction of the Development Office with a generous donation from the Foundation and a parent of an alumna. Formerly called the Red Hall this is now an elegant and distinguished tribute to all those who graduate from the Academy. Along with the Sisters of Ste-Anne and the Academy, in the summer of 2001, the Foundation helped fund the installation of the Academy's athletic field allowing our sports enthusiasts to continue to excel in the competitive world of high school athletics.
The year 2002 marked the introduction of the Sr. Willianna Tremblay Memorial Fund. This memorial fund was initiated by two former students and will help maintain the educational excellence of the Academy by granting an annual bursary to a student in financial need. It will be a living memory to a very special QAA person.
In the fall of 2002 the Foundation presented a new, fully loaded 15-passenger van to the Academy to transport students to sports events and short distance field trips. In December 2002 the Debra O'Connor (Stevens) Memorial Bursary Endowment Fund was created in honour of a 1968 graduate to honour her spirit of excellent academic achievement. It grants an annual bursary to a deserving student.
In February 2003 approximately $22,000 was raised for further educational technology through the Driving into the Future Sweepstakes. The winning tickets were drawn at our annual and traditionally fun "Family Fun Night."
The 1st Annual Golf Tournament, held on September 18th, 2006, brought the community out in support of the Foundation's Bursary Program and the West Island Palliative Care Residence. Sixty sponsors contributed and over 100 players came out to play for charity. In excess of $18,000 was raised as the community played golf on a beautiful end-of-summer day.
Most recently, in 2006, the QAA Foundation was proud to be able to donate $31,000 for technology at the Academy. The students of the Academy now have an an updated computer lab in which to work.
And thanks to generous donations from various corporate foundations, during the summer of 2003 we were able to equip the Junior Science Lab and four other classrooms with new educational technology to support teaching endeavours there.
The Queen of Angels Academy Foundation is also a community partner, sharing its fundraising activities with other charitable organizations. In the past, monies raised from several of the events have helped various charities, such as le Bon Dieu Dans la Rue, the Canadian Red Cross, the West Island Palliative Care Residence and The Montreal Children's Hospital Foundation.
